Good Afternoon Yogis! My name is Jenny Griffith and I am bringing to you a wonderful recipe. This Chutney is to pacify Kapha. Kaphas need foods that are hot, astringent, and pungent. These tastes are light, drying and heating in nature, they contain Fire and Air. A kapha person is primarily made of earth and water elements so you would want to eat foods to pacify those elements; like fire and air.
Apple Ginger and Pear Chutney
1 chopped green pear
3 chopped granny smith apples
2 inches of minced ginger
1 tbsp. of green chili
1 diced medium tomato
1 tsp. dried read chili
1 tbsp. of Chai spice
½ tsp. mustard seed
1 cup of raisins
½ cup of apple cider vinegar
2 cups chopped dried figs
1 tbsp. cinnamon
Mix everything together. Cook on medium for 1 hour with lid on!
Tastes better if it sits in the fridge for a couple days.
Here's why this chutney is great for Kaphas...
Pungent: chilies, ginger, mustard seed
Kindles agni, improves digestion and absorption, and cleans the mouth. They can stimulate nasal secretions, which dissolve the kapha dosha. These foods aid circulation, break up clots, removes fats from the body, and helps with elimination of waste products. Pungent tastes can motivate the lazy kapha. These hot and sharp tastes are penetrating to help the mind to probe, explore, and concentrate!
Astringent: granny smith apples, green pears, raisins, tomato
Creates binding of stool, helps with diarrhea. These tastes are anti-inflammatory, decongestant, scraping of fat, and aids in healing ulcers. Astringent foods bring things together and make the mind collected and organized.
Foods to eat this with; oats, rice and lentils and maybe even some coconut milk yogurt!
